the art of Chinwe to buy online

Etching is an indirect ‘intaglio’ technique in which the surface of a metal plate (usually copper) is covered with an acid-resistant material called ground. The image is drawn into this material to expose the metal underneath. The plate is then immersed in an acid bath. Only those exposed parts of the plate are eaten away by the acid. The depth of line (etch) is controlled by the duration of the immersion in the acid and also by the strength of the acid. The plate is then cleaned, inked and wiped (so that the ink is pushed into the etched areas). The plate and a sheet of paper are then put through an etching press and the image is transferred from the plate on to paper. Ink can also be left on the plate surface during printing to create tone.
A varied collection of Chinwe's landscapes, people and animals available as etchings and using this technique it becomes affordable art.
Please note that all etchings are priced and sold unframed. P&P is added at checkout at £5 per order.
